Prior to finalise your decision of whether or not to proceed with your Do-it-yourself task, there are lots of things which you have to consider.

The Pros of DIY Home Improvement

The main advantage of doing a DIY home project is you can save a lot of money. Think of getting a service provider, paying for supplies you’ll need, and going through all the documents due to the project. These things could cost lots of money, particularly if you don’t know the best way to hire a good professional.

Minor repairs are generally carried out with a DIY activity given that they have come to be less difficult due to the educational resources you can get from the Internet as well as construction companies. Whenever you single-handedly worked on a home project, you will get the fulfillment that you won’t experience if you hired someone to do everything for you. Additionally, If perhaps you’re going to do the project by yourself, it’s much easier to make transformations especially if you have a tendency to change your mind frequently.

The Cons of DIY Home Improvement

Major upgrading or fix need professional abilities. Executing it by yourself, even though you’ve carried out your research about this, will not always produce a good result. In fact, this increases the likelihood of incidents and unnecessary costs eventually. Furthermore, the majority of the design materials, layouts and etc can be difficult to get thus it could take long before you can purchase all of them.

Additionally, when projects or home improvements are done by professional contractors, they’re witout a doubt equipped with skills, time and the right tools. However when you anticipate doing it your own, you may not be able to rest on weekends or you’ll probably sacrifice family time so that you can complete the work. Also, once you spoil the minor repair task, this means you’ll need to return to the construction supply store and spend more money for new materials, and again spend more time for the repair. Hence, when you deal with major home repairs, asking for contractor’s assistance is the best thing to do however, if its just little or decorative projects then you can achieve it your own.

Happy Saturday, friends!  A lot of us who are crafty have mad crushes on mason jars.  How about you?  Do you love them?  Whether it’s for crafting or using them in our home decor — they’re functional and fabulous!  Today’s post is all about the jars, except it’s geared towards the kiddos.  Why not give them a love and appreciation for mason jars too?  Start their ‘jar crushing’ at a young age. {hee-hee}

I’m sharing a fun and super easy storage jar idea for the kids to keep their pom poms, beads, rainbow loom bands and MORE!

Supplies needed to make your own storage jar set for kids:

  • 4 oz. Quilted Glass Jelly Jars
  • Gorilla Glue
  • Toob® Animal Figurines (I used these Dino Figurines)
  • Spray Paint

Step One:  Glue the lids to the rings of each storage jar, using your Gorilla Glue.  Allow them to thoroughly dry and adhere before proceeding.

Step Two:  Grab you figurines and lids.  Be sure that your lids are clean of debris before attaching the figurines.

Step Three:  Glue figurines of choice to your lids.  Allow the figurines to dry and adhere (approximately 1-2 hours).

“In this period of monetary instability, DIYers have learned not to depend as much on governments and companies to deal with them. Even in the event that you have no craving to end up as a full-time creator, DIY can give a sure level of opportunity from relying on others for everything you need. The sense of reward you get from making something with your hands can’t be earned any other way.”

When we repair or make our own items there are obvious benefits such as money we didn’t have to shell out to repairmen or skilled artisans, but there are also many hidden benefits such as transferable skills, inspiring your children to try projects, and self reliance that makes you less apt to panic when things do go wrong.

Personal finance weblog The Simple Dollar also argues that the skills learned through DIY will allow you to barter for other needed items or skills. Think about it, lets say you learn how to replace parts of a broken toilet instead of calling a plumber. Your costs are parts and tools you may need and your time versus calling a plumber. You may not save a tremendous amount the first time you are called upon to use your toilet-repair skills but if you do this three times throughout your life you’ll undoubtedly save money in the long run. Not only that but you’ll better understand how plumbing works in general and have the confidence to take on more advanced plumbing projects. Finally, if your neighbor who runs a landscaping business has a broken toilet you might be able to trade a couple hours of your time for free lawn care for the next few months.

In the end spending four hours learning to fix a problem that a plumber could repair in one hour may save you enough to make up for that lost time several times over
